J-Town Foundation Grants and Town Meeting, Plus Ali Wong

Applications for grants of up to $5,000 from the SAN FRANCISCO JAPANTOWN FOUNDATION are due at 5 p.m. tomorrow, October 12. This will be the foundation’s initial disbursement of awards since being founded in December 2006. Grants will be up to $5,000 and provided to nonprofit groups with cultural, community and educational activities that the Foundation determines best promotes and supports San Francisco’s Japantown. WANNA SAVE JAPANTOWN? Plan to be at this meeting on Thursday, October 18, from 6pm to 9pm at the Japanese Cultural & Community Center (JCCCNC), 1840 Sutter Street, San Francisco. The future of Japan Center and Geary Boulevard are at stake. Improvements to land use and zoning, businesses, transportation, public space and the historic and cultural character throughout the neighborhood are under consideration.
