Join political veteran Julie Soo and San Jose Mercury News reporter Jessie Mangaliman in an INSPIRE ’07 panel session on Sunday moderated by Keith Kamisugi exploring our constant battles against racist portrayals in the media and popular culture.
Panelists will discuss their experiences responding to incidents ranging from ‘Chuck and Larry’ and Abercrombie to Kenneth Eng and racist talk radio hosts. Why do these stereotypes and negative images persist? Is our advocacy on these issues impotent? How do we better understand what we’re fighting against and how can we better work together to eliminate such racism?
David Chiu moderates a panel that afternoon with Vida Benavides, Eric Byler, Jane Kim, Sumaya Kazi and Annabel Park on Joining the APA Movement.
LUMAYA bassist Glenn Fajardo and singer Olga Salamanca will perform Sunday night at the “Save a Life” Awareness Concert and Party at the Westin St. Francis Hotel in Union Square. Part of INSPIRE ’07, but open to the public.
